Jasper National Park Officials: “Don’t Let Moose Lick Your Car”

November 22, 2020 ctn_admin

This might be the most Canadian headline ever. But it’s all true.

According to CNN, Jasper National Park officials are warning folks not to let moose lick their cars.

Moose, like many other animals, need salt in their bodies. They don’t always have much to choose from in nature, so they’ve discovered that licking cars that drive on salt-laden roadways in the national park is a pretty tasty activity.

Now, it WOULD be an outstanding Instagram photo if you were parked at Jasper Park Lodge and a large moose with antlers out to there came up and stuck his tongue on your Toyota. But it’s actually a serious issue, because if the animals are allowed to hang around cars and get used to SUV’s and sedans, it will alter their behaviour and lead to more interactions with humans, which is not a good thing for either of us.

Here’s the CNN story. Only in Canada, eh?
