Expert: Next Six Weeks Will Determine if Airlines Are in Recovery Mode

Continued steady erosion of what the airline industry’s leaders thought in May and June was the beginning of a rebound in passenger demand not only is disrupting the travel industry’s hopes for the balance of this year but also is signaling increased likelihood that demand will remain historically weak deep into 2021.
“These are indeed worrying times,” says John Grant, chief analyst at OAG, the British travel data company formerly known the Official Aviation Guide that publishes all flight schedules for the world’s more than 700 airlines. “The next six weeks (likely will) determine how 2021 will shape up for many airlines, airports, travel companies and indeed Government revenues if travel does not pick up quickly.”
