Air Transat Expands Caribbean Network with Montreal-Barbados Nonstop Flights

Air Transat is expanding its Caribbean network with a new nonstop route between Montreal and Barbados. Direct flights will be operating between Montréal–Trudeau International Airport and Grantley Adams International Airport on December 13, 2026.

Barbados’ new route forms part of Air Transat’s wider winter 2026-2027 expansion strategy. Alongside this, the carrier is introducing nonstop flights from Montreal to Aruba and Los Cabos as demand for warm-weather travel continues to rise among Canadian travellers.

The new connection strengthens Barbados’ airlift network from Canada during the peak winter tourism season. Canada remains one of the key visitor markets, with Montreal serving as an important gateway for travellers from Quebec and other eastern Canadian regions.

Ian Gooding-Edghill, Barbados Minister of Tourism and International Transport, said, “This new service from Air Transat reflects the continued demand for Barbados within the Quebec market.”

The expanded nonstop service is expected to improve travel convenience for Canadians looking for direct Caribbean vacations. Increased seat capacity could also support stronger tourism arrivals to Barbados during the busy seasonal period.

Barbados has recently focused on growing its Canadian connectivity through additional airline partnerships and route expansions. As part of this effort, Air Canada recently launched new nonstop services from Halifax to Bridgetown, providing Canadians with more direct travel options to the island.

For Air Transat, the Barbados launch supports the airline’s growing focus on leisure-driven international routes. The carrier has continued expanding its Caribbean and Latin American network as travellers increasingly seek direct winter escapes from major Canadian cities.

The Montreal-Barbados route also reflects wider tourism trends shaping the Canadian travel market. Airlines are increasing investment in Caribbean destinations as demand for sun travel continues to outperform several traditional international leisure segments.
