WestJet and Fiji Airways Expand Canada-Pacific Connectivity Through New Codeshare Deal

WestJet and Fiji Airways have together announced a new ‘codeshare’ partnership, which aims at strengthening their connectivity between the South Pacific and Canada.
The agreement will enable the travellers to seamlessly book journeys across both airline networks under a single itinerary, while improving access to destinations across Fiji, Canada and New Zealand.
Under this partnership, Fiji Airways will place its ‘FJ’ code on numerous WestJet domestic routes, including Halifax, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Toronto, and Calgary.
In return, WestJet will be adding its ‘WS’ code to Fiji Airways’ flights between Nadi and Vancouver, along with onward services to Christchurch, Auckland, and Wellington in New Zealand.
The move comes in response to the rising demand for travel between Fiji and Canada. According to Fiji Airways, passenger traffic between the two countries has increased by 19% year-over-year, with many travellers connecting through Fiji to broader South Pacific destinations.
To support the growing market, Fiji Airways has confirmed that it will operate three year-round weekly flights between Vancouver and Nadi, starting from June 18th.
The airline also plans to introduce its Airbus A350 aircraft on all Vancouver services, starting from September 8th, offering increased capacity and upgraded onboard comfort.
CEO and Managing Director of Fiji Airways, Paul Scurrah, described the partnership as a crucial step for the region’s connectivity and tourism goals.
“Canada represents a growing and high-value market for Fiji and the wider Pacific. This partnership with WestJet makes it easier than ever for Canadian travellers to experience the warmth, culture and natural beauty of Fiji, while also supporting increased visitor flows into our region,” he stated in the official announcement.
WestJet executives also highlighted the strategic value of the agreement. The company’s Group Executive Vice-President and CCO, John Weatherhill, said that the collaboration would simplify travel across both networks, providing passengers with flexible destination options.
This partnership additionally provides travellers with benefits such as through-checked baggage, single check-in, and the ability for WestJet-coded passengers to earn and redeem WestJet points across their full itinerary.
The announcement of this partnership reflects the strengthening of the economic and diplomatic ties between Fiji and Canada, following the opening of the Canadian High Commission in Suva earlier this year.
Jennifer Lalonde, the High Commissioner of Canada to Fiji, said that enhanced connectivity between the two countries would boost trade, tourism and people-to-people relations.
With increased flight access, seamless travel benefits, and expanding operations in Vancouver, both Fiji Airways and WestJet are positioning themselves to meet rising passenger demand for Pacific destinations in the years ahead.
Bookings under the new codeshare arrangement are now available through the official WestJet and Fiji Airways websites.
