Google Wallet TSA PreCheck Streamlines Airport Access

Frequent travellers can now enjoy a smoother airport experience through a new partnership between TSA and Google Wallet. The integration introduces the first digital-wallet enrollment option for TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, eliminating repeated airline registrations across US airports. 

A Smarter Way Through Airport Security 

Previously, travellers had to upload passport information separately for eligible flights. They had to enter their Known Traveler Number (KTN) and passport details separately through participating airline accounts and rewards portals.  

With Google Wallet, a single digital ID setup can unlock access across 100+ participating airlines operating through Touchless ID-enabled airports.    

Shelu Patel, TSA modernization acting chief innovation officer, said, “Our collaboration with Google helps our trusted TSA PreCheck travelers enjoy the fastest route through airport security. Delivering seamless experiences like this is one more way TSA is working to deliver the Golden Age of Travel.” 

Currently available at 65 airports nationwide, TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is designed to reduce checkpoint friction and move passengers through security faster. The Google Wallet integration broadens access and removes the need to manage multiple airline enrollments. 

How Google Wallet TSA PreCheck Works 

Eligible TSA PreCheck travellers can activate the feature in just a few steps: 

• Add a digital ID created from a valid US passport in Google Wallet 

• Check in for a flight and save the boarding pass to Google Wallet 

• Select the “Get started” prompt on the boarding pass 

• Authorize sharing the digital ID and boarding pass with TSA 

• Receive confirmation and a Touchless ID indicator on the boarding pass 

Once at the airport, travellers can use dedicated TSA PreCheck Touchless ID lanes, where facial comparison technology verifies identity without presenting a physical ID.  

Impact on Cross-Border Travel 

For international flyers returning to or departing from the US, the update creates a more seamless journey by linking passport-based digital credentials with domestic airport screening. While Touchless ID does not replace customs or immigration procedures, it can help reduce time spent at security checkpoints before international flights, making cross-border journeys more efficient.  

As digital identity solutions gain momentum, initiatives like these are helping reshape the airport experience. Travellers, however, should still carry a REAL ID-compliant physical ID as a backup while the industry continues its transition toward more smooth, touchless journeys. 

Digital Innovation Speeds Up Travel 

The Google Wallet–TSA integration reflects a wider move toward frictionless travel. A similar trend is underway in Canada, where the CBSA’s new Free Flow Transit program allows eligible international passengers to bypass traditional customs processing and proceed directly to connecting flights using digital verification. These advances are paving the way for faster, smoother, and increasingly touchless travel experiences.
