Emirates Flexible Booking Gets Easier with Free Date Changes & Lower Refund Fees

Dubai — Emirates is rolling out a series of customer-friendly travel policies, the latest press release says. The idea is to give passengers more flexibility before departure and prompt support in case of changes to their plans. The new measures include unlimited date changes on flights to Dubai, lower refund fees, complimentary ticket changes across the airline’s network and enhanced travel insurance.

Today, many passengers value flexibility as much as price. And Emirates seems to be moving in the right direction. For Canadians travelling to Dubai or connecting onward to destinations across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, the updated policies could make planning international trips considerably easier.

Take note of these five new benefits for Emirates passengers

Unlimited free date changes for Dubai flights

From 10 August 2026, customers travelling to Dubai can change their travel dates an unlimited number of times. No fees would be charged, regardless of whether they’re travelling on Saver or Flex fares in Economy or eligible Business Class fares. Any applicable fare difference will still apply.

Fully flexible fares, including Economy Flex Plus, Premium Economy, Business Flex Plus and First Class, continue to offer their existing flexibility.

Lower refund fees

Emirates has also reduced cancellation penalties for Dubai-bound tickets.

Economy Saver fares now carry a US$50 refund fee, while Economy Flex fares have a US$25 fee. In Business Class, refund fees are US$50 on Special and Saver fares and US$25 on Flex fares. (No-show fees remain unchanged.)

Combined with unlimited date changes, the revised policy gives travellers more options if plans change unexpectedly.

One free date change across the Emirates network

Passengers booking any Emirates ticket from 2 April 2026 onward receive one complimentary date change, including itineraries that connect through Dubai. Customers can also hold a fare for 24 hours at no additional cost before completing their purchase.

Expanded travel protection

Emirates’ Comprehensive Travel Cover remains available in 27 countries and includes protection that goes beyond traditional travel insurance.

The policy includes conflict-related cover with reimbursement of medical expenses of up to US$25,000, a complimentary trip extension of up to 30 days, trip cancellation protection, baggage delay and loss coverage, unlimited worldwide medical expenses and emergency evacuation.

If Emirates flights are disrupted, the airline says it will arrange accommodation where required. Customers with affected onward journeys or cancelled Emirates services will also be rebooked at no additional cost, including disruptions caused by airspace closures.

Extra value for Skywards members

Until 31 August 2026, Emirates Skywards members can take advantage of several limited-time promotions:

• 20% fewer Tier Miles required to qualify for Silver, Gold and Platinum status.
• 20% bonus Tier Miles on Emirates and flydubai flights.
• Improved Cash+Miles value, with 2,000 Skywards Miles worth US$30 instead of the usual US$15 when redeemed on eligible flights and selected travel extras.

Looking from the Canadian lens

For Canadians, Emirates remains an important long-haul carrier linking Canada to Dubai and destinations throughout Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Between 110,000 and 200,000 Canadians visit Dubai annually.

The airline currently serves Toronto and Montréal, operating daily non-stop flights from both cities, giving Canada 14 Emirates flights each week. Toronto is served by the Airbus A380, while Montréal is operated by the airline’s newer Airbus A350 featuring Premium Economy.

Emirates first launched service to Toronto in 2007. According to the airline, its Toronto flights have consistently operated at over 90% seat occupancy, underscoring strong demand for travel between Canada and Dubai. Emirates has also publicly expressed interest in expanding services to additional Canadian cities in the future, subject to bilateral air service agreements.

For Canadian travellers planning holidays, family visits or business trips beyond Dubai, the airline’s latest booking flexibility and travel protection measures provide added reassurance when booking international travel.

With demand for long-haul travel remaining strong, Emirates is betting that greater flexibility—not just lower fares—will continue to be one of the biggest factors influencing how travellers choose their airline.
