MSC World Asia Set for Mediterranean Debut After Completing Final Sea Trials

MSC Cruises’ newest ship, MSC World Asia, has completed her final sea trials off the coast of France. The vessel will begin seven-night Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona on December 4, 2026, bringing a new flagship experience to Mediterranean cruising this winter.
The ship is now entering its final preparation phase ahead of delivery to MSC Cruises on November 25. Its official naming ceremony will follow on November 28 in Le Havre, France.
The news of MSC Mediterranean debut comes as cruise destinations prepare for busy seasons ahead. In Canada, for example, Saint John is expecting 51 more cruise ship visits over the next two months after a slower start to its 2026 season.
Countdown Begins for December Launch
MSC World Asia underwent her final trials in the Atlantic Ocean off France’s west coast. During the tests, crews evaluated the ship’s engines, handling, fuel efficiency, safety systems, speed and stopping performance.
Guests will first step aboard on December 4, when the ship departs Barcelona on her inaugural seven-night Mediterranean voyage.
MSC World Asia’s First Mediterranean Stops Revealed
For travellers exploring Europe by sea, MSC World Asia will operate seven-night cruises visiting several of the Mediterranean’s most popular ports.
The route brings together a rich selection of Mediterranean destinations, with calls in Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia for Rome, Messina and Valletta.
As the third ship in MSC Cruises’ LNG-powered World Class series, MSC World Asia builds on a platform designed to blend large-scale entertainment, dining and accommodation with modern ship technology.
More Than 40 Dining and Entertainment Venues
The 22-deck ship will carry up to 6,764 guests and features 2,614 cabins. Travellers will have access to more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges spread across over 413,000 square feet of public space.
Among the ship’s standout attractions is The Spiral @ Tree of Life, an 81.3-metre dry slide that stretches across 12 decks, making it the longest dry slide at sea.
MSC Cruises has also incorporated design elements inspired by Asia’s cultures and landscapes. One of the most visible features is a suspended dragon sculpture located in the World Promenade, measuring 12 metres long and nine metres wide.

First Guests Sail in December
MSC World Asia is now back at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, for final finishing work ahead of delivery on November 25, 2026.
The ship will officially join the MSC Cruises fleet during a naming ceremony in Le Havre on November 28 before welcoming its first paying guests on December 4 from Barcelona.
