Forget the traditional all-inclusive holiday, the carefully planned itinerary and even the usual choice of travel companions. Booking.com 2027 travel predictions for Canadians highlight holidays shaped less by convention and more by individual preferences, such as spending choices or travel companions.

Booking.com’s 2027 travel predictions draw on a global survey of 28,230 fellow travellers across 32 countries and territories, including 1,007 Canadians. The nine trends range from flexible holiday packages and mood-based destination searches to paranormal experiences and AI-assisted time off.

Travellers want more choice over what they pay for

The traditional all-inclusive holiday is being rethought. According to the survey, 71% of Canadian travellers want vacation packages that let them remove features they do not plan to use. Nearly half (47%) would also allow their dietary preferences to influence their choice of destination or accommodation.

Changing health and lifestyle priorities are also influencing holiday choices. More than half of Canadian respondents (56%) said these changes had influenced their holiday destination or activity choices in recent years.

Travel on your own terms

Couples are finding new reasons to escape together, including even time for difficult conversations. Booking.com found that 39% of Canadian respondents would consider travelling to resolve a disagreement or conflict, while 33% identified walking or hiking together as an effective way to discuss difficult subjects.

Nearly seven in ten would consider a trip that takes them out of their comfort zone.

Travel budgets are influencing social plans, too. Around 41% have reconsidered inviting someone on a trip because of differences in spending habits, while 42% have experienced tension over money during a holiday. Meanwhile, 65% of parents are keen to enjoy a holiday without their children.

Choosing a destination by how you want to feel

A destination’s emotional appeal could carry more weight in 2027. 72% of Canadian travellers said they would choose where to go based on how they want to feel. Just the location doesn’t influence its acceptance as a holiday destination among travellers anymore. A further 66% are interested in finding destinations based on their desired mood.

For half of Canadians who have travelled alone, shared challenges have opened the door to lasting friendships. Meanwhile, 59% expressed interest in paranormal experiences.

AI may offer travellers a way to disconnect from work. 51% of participating travellers interested in having it manage work responsibilities while they are away.

The holiday begins before landing

For long-haul travellers, comfort in the air is another priority. Booking.com found that 88% of Canadian respondents would take a long-haul flight if it guaranteed they would arrive rested and refreshed.

Better rest in the air is a priority as per Booking.com 2027 travel predictions for Canadians. And 33% of the participants are interested in sleep-supporting food and drinks and 26% in jet-lag-conscious lighting. Another 31% would choose an onboard quiet zone where children are not permitted.

Planning the next great escape

As travel preferences become more personal, the right holiday begins with understanding what each traveller values most. Canadian travellers can find a travel advisor near them through the travel agent’s platform for help planning a trip that suits their needs. Travel advisors can also join the platform to connect with travellers looking for professional guidance.

“Travel is becoming less about following a formula and more about expressing who you are,” said Paul Hennessy, Chief Marketing Officer at Booking.com.

The company says it is combining AI with personalisation to respond to changing traveller preferences. For those planning their next getaway, the travel advisor platform also gives travel professionals a way to reach prospective clients seeking help with their travel plans.
