Air Canada Cancels Flights to US on Several Routes Ahead of Summer 2027

Air Canada cancels flights to US destinations on five routes planned for 2027, leaving Canadian travellers with fewer nonstop options to Boston, Seattle, Nashville, Raleigh-Durham and Charleston. The changes come as cross-border travel remains below 2024 levels and airlines reassess the commercial viability of selected services.

The cuts affect flights from Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Travellers planning US holidays or business trips next summer may need to consider alternative departure airports, connecting flights or different travel dates.

The changes also come amid other adjustments to Air Canada’s services, including its phone booking fee policy.

Five Routes Removed From Air Canada’s 2027 Schedule

A report published by aviation schedule tracker AeroRoutes on October 20 identified four seasonal routes removed from Air Canada’s planned summer 2027 schedule. The airline is also discontinuing its Toronto Billy Bishop-Boston service from December 1, 2026.

The affected services are:

Weaker demand puts cross-border routes under pressure

The announcement comes as Canadian travel to the United States remains below recent levels. Figures cited in October reporting indicate that Canadian trips to the US in September 2026 were down 29% compared with September 2024. Car crossings declined 31%, while air travel fell 19%.

Airlines must also weigh fuel costs, passenger numbers and expected revenue when deciding whether to maintain seasonal services. Routes with limited demand can become difficult to sustain when operating costs outweigh their commercial potential.

Charleston becomes the biggest casualty

Air Canada’s Toronto–Charleston service returned in 2024 after being suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will not resume for summer 2027.

According to aviation publication Simple Flying, the airline operated 200 departures and offered 15,200 outbound seats on the route in 2024. By 2026, the figures had fallen to 92 departures and 6,992 seats.

An Air Canada spokesperson told: “Air Canada regularly reviews its schedule to ensure capacity is aligned with customer demand and travel patterns.” The spokesperson confirmed that the airline had decided to discontinue the summer 2027 Charleston-Toronto service “for these commercial reasons.”

The cuts come even as Air Canada continues to receive industry recognition. At the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, it was named Best Airline in North America for the 10th time.

New US routes offer alternative options

Despite the cancellations, Air Canada is continuing to expand elsewhere in the US market. Its announced summer 2027 additions include Toronto-Louisville from April 28, Montreal-Indianapolis from June 1 and Edmonton-Newark from June 1.

These new services will create additional travel options, although they will not directly replace every discontinued connection. Travellers with existing bookings should confirm their itineraries with the airline and review available alternatives if their plans are affected.

For travellers searching for information on whether Air Canada cancels flights to US destinations they plan to visit, checking the latest airline schedules is essential. Travel advisors can also help passengers compare connecting flights, departure airports and travel dates as schedules change. As summer 2027 approaches, passengers should verify flight availability before finalising accommodation and other travel arrangements. Further schedule adjustments will depend on booking trends, operating costs and demand across the Canada-US market.
