Airport Quarantine Hotel Complaints Piling Up: Cold Food, No Bottles of Water

First the complaints were about how travellers couldn’t get through on the phone. Now, the issues seem to be around bad food and poor hotel service.

Canada’s quarantine hotel policy turns a week old today, and the complaints are piling up.

A woman who flew from Arkansas to Montreal to be with her boyfriend told CTV News she was given a paltry breakfast with yogurt and a couple pieces of bread. Another woman said she asked for bottled water and was told they are available only at meal time. She was told to drink water from the hotel bathroom tap.

In another incident, occupants at an unnamed Canadian hotel got into a shouting match with management to complain that their lunch was late. One man who spoke with CTV News said people were angry and uncomfortable after coming off long international flights and needed food.

In another case, a woman said her dinner was delivered to her room and was cold.

As of Feb. 22, the Canadian government began requiring air travellers to get tested for COVID-19 after they land. They also have a book a hotel and stay there while they wait for their test results.

Rooms have to be booked for three days, and costs range from around $610 to $2,200.

If an arriving passenger tests negative for COVID-19, they can finish their mandatory, 14-day quarantine at home. If they test positive they’re sent to a government facility for the rest of their quarantine.
