CN Train Crew Escapes Flames Near Armstrong
A dramatic rail incident has emerged as one of the most alarming developments of the wildfire crisis. A CN train fire scare near Armstrong captured national attention after video footage showed a train crew surrounded by flames while stopped on the tracks.
“This could potentially overtake us here, this has gotten a little scary. We’re encased in flames now,” an engineer says in video footage captured from inside a train stopped on the tracks. The video was shared by Ontario MPP Sol Mamakwa.
Canadian National Railway later confirmed that all employees escaped safely and temporarily halted operations in the affected area as a precaution.
Paul Boucher, president of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, said, “We are relieved that nobody was hurt. But make no mistake, this incident should never have happened. CN should never have sent a train down those lines. The company knows exactly how bad the situation is in that region. That fire has been raging for five weeks.”
