Passengers at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) faced delays after an incident involving an Air Canada Express flight bound for Prince George (YXS). An Air Canada Express passenger was arrested on Tuesday while boarding Flight 8339, scheduled to depart at 8:25 a.m. Authorities were called after reports emerged that multiple airline employees had allegedly been assaulted before the aircraft left the gate.
Air Canada Express Boarding Turns Chaotic
Officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded shortly after receiving reports of the incident and took the passenger into custody. The individual was taken into custody without further incident, bringing the situation quickly under control.
Investigators have not yet revealed what led to the alleged assault or provided details about the incident itself. Authorities have also not confirmed how many airline employees were involved.
Investigation Continues After Onboard Disturbance
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine exactly what occurred during the YVR–YXS flight boarding.
Airline representatives confirmed that a serious onboard incident took place. However, they would not provide additional details while the investigation continues. No injuries have been publicly reported.
According to the RCMP, officers responded to an initial report that multiple airline employees were assaulted by a passenger on a flight.
Cpl. Frank Bryson of the Richmond RCMP detachment stated, “The individual was safely taken into custody at the scene. The situation is now under investigation.”
Flight Delayed, Airport Operations Unaffected
The incident delayed Air Canada Express Flight 8339 by about 2.5 hours, affecting passengers travelling to Prince George. Despite the incident, airport officials said operations at Vancouver International Airport continued normally. No other flights were impacted, and broader airport activities remained unaffected.
A Reminder for Air Travellers
While the investigation remains ongoing, the incident underscores the role of passenger cooperation in maintaining a smooth flight experience. As Air Canada continues investing in initiatives focused on smoother and more accessible journeys for travellers, cooperation with airport and flight personnel remains essential to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and disruption-free travel experience for everyone.
Whether travelling domestically or internationally, passengers should follow airline protocols and cooperate with staff for safe journeys.
