Air Transat Montreal Dakar Route Goes Year-Round in Major Expansion

Air Transat is making its presence stronger in Africa by turning the Air Transat Montreal Dakar Route a year-round service. This expansion will extend flights beyond the summer season, offering a continuous air link between Senegal and Canada.
Launched in June 2026, the nonstop route will now operate through Winter 2026-2027, becoming the only direct scheduled air service connecting Sub-Saharan Africa and Canada.
Year-round service between Dakar and Montreal
The expanded schedule will run on all Fridays from 30th October 2026 to 26th March 2027, complementing Air Transat’s two existing weekly summer flights.
According to Air Transat, this route meets a growing need among travelers between Senegal and Canada while also providing a convenient gateway to West Africa for business and leisure passengers.
“By extending it year-round, we’re providing our customers with greater continuity and convenience while reinforcing our commitment to this market,” said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat.
Why the Air Transat Montreal Dakar route matters
The Air Transat Montreal Dakar route has a crucial role to play for Quebec’s Senegalese community by offering a direct travel option, which removes the requirement for connecting flights through various African and European hubs.
The service also strengthens the travel ties between West Africa and Canada while supporting family visits, tourism, and business travel.
Operating the Airbus A330 provides capacity to meet year-round demand while enabling travelers to benefit from Air Transat’s long-haul network.
Air Transat all set to expand its Mexico network too
Alongside the Dakar announcement, Air Transat revealed additional growth plans for its Mexico network. The new developments include:
- Continued expansion of regional leisure travel options across Canada
- Extended Fredericton-Cancún service from 16th December 2026 to 29th April 2027
- New weekly non-stop Windsor-Cancún service starting from 19th December 2026
The new Windsor route will complement the current Punta Cana service, while Fredericton travelers can benefit from the longer winter sun season.
The move to make the Air Transat Montreal-Dakar route a year-round operation reflects the growing demand between West Africa and Canada. Combined with the expanded Mexico service, the announcement underscores Air Transat’s strategy of serving both regional and international leisure travel markets as it continues to expand its network.
