Canada Mongolia Direct Flights Get Closer To Reality for the First Time

The vision of Canada Mongolia direct flights is now a step closer to reality after these two countries have announced expansion of their bilateral air transport agreement, facilitating first-ever direct air services between Canada and Mongolia.

This move is expected to strengthen trade ties, boost tourism, and enhance connectivity between the two countries.

Canada Mongolia direct flights – highlights of the new move

The updated agreement comes along with numerous changes to enhance the aviation links between these two nations, like:

• Unlimited cargo flights every week, to create better flexibility for the freight operators.
• Up to three-weekly passenger-combination flights for airlines from each country.
• Open fifth-freedom rights for cargo services, enabling airlines to operate between two foreign countries if the routes end or begin in the home nations.

The airlines are yet to announce specific routes. The agreement removes major regulatory hurdles and establishes the baselines for non-stop services in the future.

The importance of this agreement

For travellers, the prospect of direct air links can make visiting Mongolia more convenient and attractive, reducing reliance on connecting flights through other hubs across Asia.

For businesses, this agreement is expected to strengthen supply chains, improve cargo movements, and support Canada’s broader trade diversification efforts.

“Mongolia is an emerging market, and I’m pleased to see this expanded air transport agreement, which will unlock exciting new opportunities for travellers and businesses in both our countries,” – Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon.

Agreement part of Canada’s aviation strategy

The agreement is a part of Canada’s wider effort to expand its international aviation network. As per Transport Canada, the country now maintains air transport arrangements and agreements with 125+ countries across the world.

Although none of the airlines have formally launched the route yet, Canada Mongolia direct flights are now closer to reality. As airlines evaluate network opportunities and market demand, the expanded agreement could eventually open a new air corridor linking Mongolia and North America for the first time, creating new trade and travel opportunities.
