Wasaga Beach Considers Gondolas, Ziplines and Aerial Attractions Under Destination Wasaga Vision

Wasaga Beach is exploring the idea of introducing ziplines, gondolas, elevated walkways, and other such sky attractions as part of its Destination Wasaga tourism vision.

The Town of Wasaga Beach has officially launched the Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI), inviting tourism operators and developers to propose introducing aerial attraction concepts.

These attractions can help transform downtown and the waterfront into a year-round tourism destination.

The proposed attractions may include:

  • Cable systems
  • Aerial attractions
  • Gondolas
  • Canopy experiences
  • Observation structures

And other recreational experiences connected to the downtown, waterfront, and gateway areas.

The town’s officials clarified that no operator, project or final location has been cleared for selection yet. The RFEOI is currently a non-binding process aimed at determining the market interest and gathering early-stage concepts before the beginning of any procurement process or council decisions.

This is the kind of idea that gets people talking. A signature aerial attraction could give visitors another reason to choose Wasaga Beach for a day trip, weekend getaway or family vacation, while supporting local businesses and strengthening the year-round tourism economy.” – Mayor Brian Smith in an official statement released by the Town of Wasaga Beach.

The initiative forms part of Destination Wasaga, a community-powered development strategy focused on creating a vibrant four-season tourism economy through accessible public spaces, nature-based aerial attractions, and sustainable waterfront development.

As per the town, interested proponents may submit ideas which include

  • Preliminary cost estimates
  • Operational models
  • Accessibility planning
  • Visitors experience
  • Environmental considerations

Authorities believe that this process will help determine whether large-scale aerial attractions are both technically and financially feasible.

Andrew McNeill, the Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Wasaga Beach, said that RFEOI is formed to evaluate innovative tourism opportunities and align with the long-term Destination Wasaga Vision.

Submissions for the RFEOI will stay open till 4th June 2026.
