Club Med to Open Luxury All‑Inclusive Resort in St. Croix by 2027

Club Med is returning to the US with plans to redevelop the Carambola Beach Resort in St. Croix into a premium, all-premium property. This move marks the brand’s re-entry into the American market after many years of absence.

This project is to be developed in partnership with VICI Properties and will transform an existing resort into a 150-room Club Med Exclusive Collection property, with construction expected to start in summer 2026 and reopening targeted for late 2027.

Development plans and partnership structure

Under this agreement, VICI Properties has acquired the Carambola Beach Resort and will be funding its development, while Club Med will operate under a long-term lease.

The redevelopment plan includes a full renovation of the existing property, which was originally built in 1986 by philanthropist Laurance Rckerfeller. The plans also include preserving the site’s natural setting alongside upgrading the resort to meet Club Med’s premium Standards.

The property is located between the beachfront and the rainforest and will be incorporated into Club Med’s Exclusive Collection portfolio, which showcases the brand’s highest-tier offerings.

Return to the US

The St. Croix development marks a major milestone for Club Med, which has not operated a resort in the United States or its territories since the closure of its Florida location in 2022.

Executives opine that the project represents a strategic step in expanding the company’s footprint in North America, particularly as demand for premium and all-inclusive travel is at an all-time high.

Local impact and economy

The redevelopment is expected to generate nearly 200 jobs directly, along with additional indirect employment through local businesses, partnerships, suppliers, and providers.

Officials from the Virgin Islands have highlighted that tourism is the key driver of economic growth, and that this project is positioned to attract international visitors and support local development.

Club Med has hinted that the project will pursue environmental certifications such as the Green Globe Standards and BREEAM as part of its commitment to nature.

The redevelopment will also aim at preserving the property’s current landscape and cultural identity while introducing modern design elements and upgraded amenities.
