WestJet and Qatar Airways Announce Major Expansion of Canada-Doha Flight Corridor

Canadian travellers will soon find Doha closer than ever, as the WestJet Qatar Airways partnership expands through a new codeshare agreement that bridges Canada with one of the world’s most sophisticated global aviation networks.

The move gives WestJet customers seamless access to Doha from Toronto and Montreal while creating new opportunities for onward travel across Qatar Airways’ extensive international network. The announcement comes at a time when WestJet is steadily broadening its global reach through fleet investments and strategic network growth.

Just a few months ago, the airline completed its narrowbody fleet renewal program, further supporting its long-term expansion plans. Read more about that development in our coverage of WestJet’s fleet upgrade.

New agreement brings Doha closer for Canadian travellers

Under the codeshare arrangement, WestJet will place its airline code on Qatar Airways’ nonstop flights between Toronto and Doha and Montreal and Doha. Qatar Airways will, in turn, add its code to selected WestJet-operated services from both Canadian gateways.

The agreement introduces a more seamless travel experience, allowing passengers to travel on a single itinerary with coordinated connections, through-checked baggage and the ability to earn eligible WestJet Rewards points across their journey.

“Building on a trusted relationship that has spanned more than a decade, we’re pleased to offer guests greater choice, convenience and access through a single booking and check-in experience,” said John Weatherill, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer at WestJet.

For travellers heading beyond the Gulf region, the agreement provides access to a wide range of destinations through Doha, which has become one of the most important transit hubs connecting North America with Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Qatar Airways customers gain access across Canada

The partnership is equally significant for inbound travel.

Qatar Airways passengers arriving in Canada will gain access to 11 destinations through WestJet’s domestic network, including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, St. John’s and Winnipeg.

The expanded connectivity could help strengthen tourism flows while making it easier for international visitors to reach communities beyond Canada’s largest gateways. For travel advisors, the additional routing options offer greater flexibility when designing itineraries for both leisure and business travellers.

The WestJet Qatar Airways partnership highlights a growing trend across the aviation industry, where carriers are expanding their global footprint through carefully aligned partnerships that enhance connectivity without the need for new routes.

Connecting Canada to more of the world

The carrier’s recently announced winter schedule includes additional flying on several leisure and international routes, reinforcing its focus on providing Canadians with more direct access to sought-after destinations. More details are available in our report on the WestJet winter schedule.

Industry experts note that airline partnerships have become an important tool for improving connectivity while offering passengers easier journeys and a greater choice of destinations under a single booking.

Canadian travellers planning international itineraries may also benefit from working with experienced local travel advisors to create customized travel plans and coordinate multi-destination journeys.

More destinations may follow

WestJet has indicated that this is only the beginning of the agreement’s next phase.

The airline plans to place its code on additional destinations beyond Doha in the future, extending the reach of its network even further through Qatar Airways’ global operations.

As demand for international travel continues to grow, the WestJet Qatar Airways partnership positions both carriers to offer stronger connectivity, broader network access and a more seamless travel experience for customers travelling between Canada and some of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.
