Ontario Premier Doug Ford Still Pushing To Reduce Mandatory Quarantine Times

CTVNews – Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he’s still pushing to “knock down” the 14-day quarantine for travellers returning into Canada from overseas.
Ford made the comment on Wednesday afternoon after being asked whether border restrictions between Canada and the United States should be tightened given the escalating number of COVID-19 cases in both countries.
In response to the question, Ford said he is still pushing to replace the quarantine with a rapid COVID-19 testing program, similar to what Alberta implemented earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports that with Canadian airports virtually empty these days, airport officials are pinning their recovery hopes on a testing experiment to convince the prime minister to relax some of the world’s strictest Covid-19 travel rules.
Bloomberg News said the pilot program that Ford likes, which is being tested at Calgary International Airport, has arriving visitors tested for the virus upon arrival.
“Participants who receive a negative result are allowed to get back to a near-normal life in about two days, though a second test is required several days later. Everyone else entering Canada must quarantine for 14 days, a rule that has not changed since March,” Bloomberg noted.
