The Pandemic Blues: Canadians Miss Travel More Than Their Friends
January 21, 2021 Jim Byers
Canadians seem to miss travel more than they miss their friends during the pandemic.
A study by Babbel, a language app, found that travel is the thing Canadians are looking forward to most in a post-pandemic world.
Asked what was at the top of their to-do list after the pandemic, 69% of respondents said “to be able to travel.” That was followed by seeing friends and family without wearing a mask at 62%, and enjoying leisure activities (such as a sporting event) at 34%.
I’m not sure what that says about out friends, but it’s good news for the tourism and travel industries in Canada, and around the world.
Asked how much different aspects of their lives have been disrupted by the pandemic in 2020 , only 19% of respondents said their work lives had been affected a lot, while 24% said their family life had been affected a lot. For travel, that number was 48%.
The study also found that people are thinking beyond quick getaways and planning for longer duration trips, with 42% of Canadians hoping to take an extended trip, either on a sabbatical or working remotely while abroad.
