Mexico officials say Friday’s surprise announcement of flight suspensions from Canada will cost their economy $932 million CAD.
The Mexican government put out a statement on the weekend saying that the Trudeau government’s announcement that all four major Canadian airlines will suspend flights to Mexico and the Caribbean until April 30 will have an enormous impact.
Officials said their estimate is based on the potential loss of 791,000 Canadian visitors over the next three months.
On the other side of the coin, Canada could lose 372,000 Mexican visitors at a cost of $368 million in lost revenues.
Globalnews reports that Aeromexico will halt flights to Canada from the second week of February until the end of April.
