The Public Health Agency of Canada has released data since its mandatory hotel quarantine took effect February 22, 2021.
As of March 6, 2021, there have been 11,440 rooms booked through the Global Business Travel number.
Since February 26, 2021, travellers can also book directly with the Government Authorized Accommodation (GAA) hotels.
From February 22 to March 4, 2021, PHAC has received Day 1 test results for 21,939 travellers (air and land) of which (1.2%) or 267 people have tested positive. The majority of these travellers were staying at a government-authorized hotel when they tested positive and were then redirected to a designated quarantine facility or another suitable location to limit their interaction with other Canadians.
Since the program started, travel is still trending very low as a cause of COVID cases, with 1% of overall cases in Canada resulting from international travel.
That number for Ontario, home to Pearson International, Canada’s busiest airport is even less with only 0.6% of cases resulting from travel.
