Air Canada has altered its policy regarding emotional support animals, while WestJet says it’s reviewing its politices.
The CBC reports that, as of March 1, emotional support animals are no longer allowed in airplane cabins on Air Canada flights.
“Smaller dogs and cats that can fit inside a specifically sized carrier, as well as service dogs, are still accepted,” their story says.
Air Canada told CBC Toronto in an email that the new policy came as a result of changes to the rules in the United States.
Asked for comment, WestJet officials said they’re still accepting emotional support animals but are weighing the issue.
“We continue to accept Emotional Support Animals (ESAs), however, we are reviewing our support and service animal policies in light of updated DOT regulations in the US and the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities regulations in Canada,” a spokesperson said.
