Canada Upgraded on CDC’s Travel List

U.S. authorities have upgraded Canada to a level two warning for American travellers.

The Centers for Disease Control had Canada at a level three warning, which indicates a “high” level of the virus. Canada now is at level two and is considered to have a “moderate” level of COVID-19.

“Unvaccinated travelers who are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should avoid nonessential travel to Canada. If you must travel and have concerns, talk to your doctor,” the CDC website states.

The U.S. State Department this week bumped Canada from level three (“reconsider travel) to level two (“exercise increased caution”).

Still, there are no reports that the U.S. plans to allow Canadians to drive over the border any time soon.

Canada on Monday (Aug. 9) began allowing fully vaccinated Americans and permanent U.S. residents to come into the country by car or plane without having to quarantine.

The U.S. allows Canadians to fly to the States, but the land border with Canada is still closed to all but essential traffic. The Biden administration last month extended its land border closure order until Aug. 21.
