UPDATE: U.S to Require COVID Test 24 Hours to Enter Starting Next Week

The US White House has released a statement this morning that new testing requirements for all inbound international travellers will take effect early next week.
It is unclear if these provisions will apply to land border crossings with Canada. Currently, fully vaccinated travellers could enter the USA by land without a COVID test if they were visiting less than 72 hours.
In addition to Canada’s latest revised testing requirements which took effect November 30th, all international travellers from countries other than the US, will now be subjected to further testing on arrival.
“Early next week, the United States will tighten pre-departure testing protocols by requiring all inbound international travellers to test within one day of departure globally, regardless of nationality or vaccination status. This tighter testing timeline provides an added degree of public health protection as scientists continue to assess the Omicron variant.”
Officials said earlier that the U.S. government is also considering the possibility of requiring air travellers to get another COVID-19 test within three to five days after arrival in the United States. The update released this morning does not include that requirement.
