3 Reasons to Think Outside the Box and Go RV’ing for Your Next Vacation
November 12, 2022 Marsha Mowers
There’s a trend happening in travel right now called “Revenge Travel”. It’s defined as taking back the time the pandemic took away from us and booking the trips we always wanted to do. After two years of cancellations, rescheduling and missed milestones, travellers are looking to create memorable experiences that help make up for lost time.
One downside to this takes us back to basic economics – supply and demand. As the travel industry emerges from the pandemic, prices are going up. The last minute booking idea as a money saver is almost non-existent as capacity surges around the globe. Remember, we have two years of trips that were booked and not taken to compete for seats with. Also, Canada was one of the last to loosen restrictions, meaning travellers from around the world got a jump on us booking and are filling resorts. Mix those together and it’s a perfect storm for higher pricing.
It’s not all doom and gloom though, there are still ways for families to make memories while keeping budget in check. One of these is a more unique experience for Canadians; an RV trip. We admittedly are RV travel fans, we’ve written about our experience before with CanaDream. But there are things that travellers might not have thought of – here are our top 3 reasons why you need to think out of the box and book a trip with CanaDream.
It’s cost-effective for a family
CanaDream offers a wide range of vehicles to rent from, whether it’s a small mini-camper for 2 or their largest which sleeps 7, prices are comparable to what you would pay for a standard hotel room per night. The bonus is because there’s a kitchen (fridge, stove, oven, microwave and sink) cooking meals is a very cost-effective way to stay in budget. Gas costs do need to be factored in, but wherever CanaDream guests travel they can save on fuel with the Journie Rewards Partnership, delivering savings of up to 12¢ per litre.
Travel is not limited to the province you’re in
This is where many potential RV-ers might get stuck – there’s an assumption that you should only explore the province you’re in. That’s not the case, in fact CanaDream recently unveiled new trip itineraries for Disney. Through CanaDream’s Trip Planner hub, guests can find routes from either Vancouver (or Calgary) to DisneyLand in Anaheim, California or Toronto (or Montreal) to Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida.
Winter bookings are available with CanaDream, but if you’re not comfortable driving in inclement weather, why not fly to British Columbia (less snow) and book your RV trip there? Adding an RV component to any trip is a great way to explore. We have also rented an RV from Toronto and drove to the US via Vermont, Boston, Cape Cod and Woodstock, NY. There are no issues crossing the border in a rented RV.
It’s something different
Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or taking your first trip with family and friends, an RV trip is unique. There’s something about being able to roam free in a house on wheels. No unpacking at each stop, great conversations at the table while you’re on the road and exploring a new world in comfort. Kids especially love RV travel. Ours made his job to help with “the slideouts” and likes to sit in the front seat to help direct.
With six vehicle types available, accommodating 3-7 guests in multiple sleeping areas with hotel grade mattresses and linens and thoughtfully-planned kitchens and bathrooms, pack up the whole family and take a road trip like no other.
