Centers for Disease Control Says Vaccinated Americans Can Travel Freely; No Quarantine Needed

People who are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus can freely travel in the U.S., as long as keep their masks on while they’re on planes, trains and buses, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced today (April 2).
It’s a big deal in terms of instilling confidence in travel in the U.S. Then again, we’ve seen tons of Americans partying in Miami Beach for spring break, and we have a report today that Palm Springs is quite busy with visiting tourists.
American Airlines this week said their bookings are at 90% of pre-pandemic levels.
NBCNews.com reports that the new guidance means that “fully vaccinated grandparents can fly to visit their healthy grandkids without getting a Covid-19 test, or self-quarantining, provided they follow the other recommended prevention measures,” CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Friday during a news briefing.
While fully vaccinated people may travel at low risk, Walensky said, “CDC is not recommending travel at this time due to the rising number of cases” in the U.S.
The current seven-day average of new cases in the States is just above 62,000 cases per day, NBC reports.
As part of their updated travel policy, CDC officials said fully vaccinated travellers no longer need to get tested before or after they travel, unless it’s required by the destination. They also no longer need to self-quarantine.
The CDC says the latest scientific data shows vaccinated travellers are less likely to spread the disease.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said yesterday that CDC officials told her they’ll soon be issuing guidelines that would allow for the safe restart of the cruise industry in the United States.
