New York City Will “Fully Reopen” On July 1, Mayor Vows

The mayor of New York City says The Big Apple will “fully reopen” on July 1.
Speaking on MSNBC, Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday said city officials are confident they can return one of the world’s great cities to a normal life.
“We are ready for stores to open, for businesses to open,” de Blasio said. Stores, small theaters and office buildings would be allowed to operate at “full strength.”
“This is going to be the summer of New York City,” the mayor stated. “You’re going to see amazing activities, cultural activities coming back. I think people are going to flock to New York City, because they want to live again.”
CNBC reports that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he would like to see the city reopen before the date pitched by de Blasio.
“I don’t want to wait that long. I think if we do what we have to do we can reopen earlier,” Cuomo said.
Restaurants, gyms, shops, hair salons and arenas will open at full capacity. Smaller theaters could reopen over the summer and Broadway is on track for opening by September, CNBC said.
It would be a remarkable comeback for a city that was hit extremely hard by COVID-19 in the spring of last year.
