Ontario Set to Partly Reopen on Friday June 11; Quebec Moving Ahead Today

Things are looking a bit rosier for tourism and travel businesses in Canada’s two most populous provinces.
Health Minister Christine Elliott told CTV News Toronto on Monday that the Doug Ford government is considering formally entering the first stage of its three-stage reopening plan as early as June 11, which is three days ahead of the Ford government’s target date of June 14. The Toronto Star said it has learned the plan is going ahead.
Elliott told Colin D’Mello of CTV News Monday that things are looking good.
“We’re still looking at the numbers and the numbers are looking quite favourable.”
Under provincial guidelines released last month, stage one in Ontario would allow, among other things,
- outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people
- outdoor dining with up to four people per table
- non-essential retail at 15% capacity
It’s only three days early, but it would mean a good deal to Ontario restaurant owners and other businesses if they can have an added Friday, Saturday and Sunday with at least some operations in place.
Meanwhile, CP24 and Canadian Press report that all of Quebec is now out of the red alert level and in the orange zone, which allows restaurant dining rooms to partly open. That includes Montreal, Laval and several smaller cities that were in the red zone as of yesterday.
This marks the first time since the end of September that restaurant dining rooms in Montreal have been allowed to open, though orange zone restrictions set a limit of two adults who don’t share an address per table, CP said.
